Charles to deliver climate speech

The Prince of Wales is due to fly out to Norway to make the keynote speech at a major climate change conference.

Charles has been invited by the country’s prime minister Jens Stoltenberg to speak at the Oslo Climate and Forest Conference.

A Clarence House spokeswoman said: “The invitation to the prince was made in recognition of the decades he has spent working to promote environmental awareness and, in particular, his work over the past three years to save the world’s remaining tropical rainforests.”

Charles will deliver his address when the conference opens on Thursday.

The goal of the major meeting is to formally establish a global REDD (Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Degradation) partnership, endorsed by the heads of state and government, to provide fast-track funding for rainforest countries to help them stop the loss of their forests.

The prince will make his trip to Norway by chartered flight, a decision which was taken after all the options were considered and something seen as the most practical way of travelling, said a Clarence House spokeswoman.
