Amazing Grace

By Steven Goddard

The headline reads “NASA Satellites Detect Unexpected Ice Loss in East Antarctica“

ScienceDaily (Nov. 26, 2009) — Using gravity measurement data from the NASA/German Aerospace Center’s Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission, a team of scientists from the University of Texas at Austin has found that the East Antarctic ice sheet-home to about 90 percent of Earth’s solid fresh water and previously considered stable-may have begun to lose ice.

Better move to higher ground! NASA also reported :

“Antarctica has been losing more than a hundred cubic kilometers (24 cubic miles) of ice each year since 2002” and that “if all of this ice melted, it would raise global sea level by about 60 meter (197 feet).“

In 2007, NASA generated this map (below) of Antarctica showing just how hot it is getting down there in the land of Penguins.

Now I am really worried! But wait……. There are a few minor problems.

Een beter instrument is de ESA Cryosat-2:

    Scientists receive first CryoSat-2 data.

-Profile of the Greenland ice sheet acquired by CryoSat-2.
The profile shows an estimate of ice-sheet elevation and variability of surface characteristics (colour-coded returned echo power levels) across a 2500 km transect from south to north.

-CryoSat determines variations in the thickness of floating sea-ice so that seasonal and interannual variations can be detected.
The satellite also surveys the surface of continental ice sheets to detect small elevation changes. Information on precise variations in ice thickness will further our understanding of the relationship between ice and climate change.

I WANDER IF THE MELTED ARCTIC WATER MIGHT STAY LONG TIME ON THE POLE CAUSE IT IS FAR FROM THE EQUATOR AND LESS UNDER THE INFLUANCE OF THE CENTRIPETAL FORCE WHICH PUSSHES THE WATER TO THE EQUATOR IN OTHER WORDS IT HAS TO SPEED UP.but if it catches speed the level could mount WHEN IT HITS THE SHORES
